YMCA Southcoast School Food Program
In coordination with the Shah Family Foundation and the Y of Greater Boston, the following YMCA Southcoast locations will be offering a new school food program that will supplement the current public school food programs: Fall River YMCA, New Bedford YMCA, and Wareham Gleason Family YMCA. This hunger prevention program addressing the food gap and COVID-19 food insecurity is providing no-cost meals to youth ages 18 and under in Fall River, New Bedford, and Wareham Public Schools. These communities have been identified as having a higher risk for households experiencing food insecurity during the health crisis, and prepared meals will be be offered for pickup at these YMCA locations only.
The Gleason Family YMCA in Wareham will be a host site for the program so that parents & caregivers of school age children in Wareham can have access to additional nutritious food for their children during the school week. This boxed meals program will be offered weekly to households in Wareham with school age children for free on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning on January 29th, 3:30pm-5:30pm, with distribution in the parking lot on a first come first served basis.
