Ep 14: Andrea Campbell's Call for Action
Happy New Year! Today, we talk to Andrea Campbell, City Councilor of District 4 in Boston. A lifelong resident of Boston and proud graduate of Boston Public Schools, Councilor Campbell has devoted her career to helping others in Boston and advocating for those who need support. While Campbell has focused on issues such as criminal justice and affordable housing among others, she has more recently been focused on education and Boston Public Schools. On June 24th 2019, Councilor Campbell released her own action plan discussing important topics and issues in Boston Public Schools (including some highlighted here) providing recommendations as to what next steps should look like to help provide all families with equitable and accessible educational opportunities. This action plan has received much local attention, and has been seen as a framework for moving forward in bringing positive change to Boston Public Schools.
We talk with Councilor Campbell about her goals for the next two years, her education plan, and what she sees as the most critical needs of her constituents. We also discuss how her past, education, and family have influenced her work to help and inspire others.
